Workdays on Motuora
Each month, except for December, and usually on the last Saturday, we organise a work day on the Island. About a week in advance we send an email to everyone on our membership and volunteer lists with details of the day including how to book, the dates and times, costs and the work plan. We usually set the dates to avoid long weekends. Trips are weather dependent (we consult the forecast and the water taxi company) and also depend on the availability of team leaders.
The important details are:
You must book to go on a trip, don’t turn up without a prior booking
Departure is from Sandspit wharf, usually at 8 am
We travel by water taxi and the journey takes about 30 minutes
It’s a ‘wet landing’. You climb down a ladder on the side of the boat and step into the water. Depth varies from below the knee to waist deep. Bring a towel and consider a change of clothing
Bring your own lunch and refreshments. There will be tea and coffee available at lunch time.
Bring strong footwear and suitable clothing (for hot, dry, wet, cold, etc.), a hat and sunscreen
Wear clean clothes, clean you footwear and anything else you have with you. Check for seeds, insects, etc. and be sure to remove them so they don’t get to Motuora.
We usually depart Motuora between 3pm and 4pm.
The cost of travel is $20 for adults and $10 for children under twelve (under fives go free). This is heavily subsidised by the Society. The best way to book is to respond to the email message about the trip but you can also send enquiries to mrsadmin@motuora.org.nz
